Selecting Appropriate Accommodations for Students with Hearing Loss
In order for a student to receive services thru the DHH program, the student must show evidence of a hearing loss and an adverse impact on educational performance. One piece of evidence of hearing loss comes from a hearing evaluation administered by an audiologist or an otolaryngologist. It is important to use the results in order to select appropriate accommodations/modifications/teaching strategies for students. For example, this student has a low frequency hearing loss as shown by the audiogram below. It will be important to keep in mind that this student will have an easier time understanding females and high pitches rather than males and low pitches. This information will help you better select appropriate educational needs of the student.
